How will we be using mobile phones at YouReach University? There are two key ways we use mobile phones at YouReach University.
The first is pretty obvious -- as you know, this 6 month series is called Mobile Social Media. That's because we teach a strategy that allows agents to manage their entire social networking campaign through their mobile phone.
Additionally, we use mobile phones to communicate with students (that's you). Each week you can expect to get text messages from us with reminders, updates and tips.

What type of mobile phones will work for this program? To participate in the Mobile Social Media series at YouReach University you need to have a smartphone.
A smartphone is a mobile phone offering advanced capabilities and computer-like functionality.
While there is no standard industry definition of a smartphone, these days, it's hard to even buy a phone that does not offer some kind of 'smart'Â technology because it's in such a high demand.
If you are in the market for a new phone, the ones we love the most are the Apple iPhone, pretty much any Blackberry, the Palm Pre and the Droid. These phones are really cool and can do so much more than we need for this program. The key feature, no pun intended though, is a keyboard. This makes typing easier and more convenient than using your telephone keypad.
But really, a smart phone is ANY phone that can take a picture, send an email and receive a text-- Does your phone do that?
If you don't have a phone that can take a picture, and send and receive emails and text--.You still have a week, go-ahead-- get one!

What will I need to know how to do on my mobile phone? There are four main things you will need to be able to do on your mobile phone and one bonus feature
1. Receive text messages
2. Add a contact
3. Send an email
4. Take a photo
5. BONUS '“ Take a video

Text MessagesThe YouReach team uses text messages to communicate with students, so it is important that you are able to check your messages. Most smart phones will ring or vibrate when you receive a text. If you miss a text message, you will probably see a notification pop up on the screen.

Add a New ContactSmartphones come equipped with address books in which you can save contact information (like phone numbers and email addresses) for people you meet.

Send an email from your SmartphoneOne of the defining features of Smartphones is their ability to send and receive emails. The YouReach strategy uses an email based program to manage social networks, so it is imperative that your phone is email-friendly.

Take a photoYou've heard the saying before, 'A picture is worth a thousand words'. Well, it's true in social media.
You have probably figured out already of your phone has a built in camera. You're going to need to for this program, so make sure your phone has a camera so we can capture photos to share online. Usually taking an image is as easy as choosing camera from your main menu and clicking away.

BONUS Take a videoWhile it's not a necessity for the YouReach program, being able to take videos on your phone is certainly a bonus.

What if I need more help using my phone? If you don't know how to do any one of these items, you should consult your phone documentation or call your mobile providers.
You can schedule a time to meet with a professional and have them personally teach you how to use your phone.
